  • 1000 WORKS PROJECT & OTHER FLAGS:

Inspired by my spouse's dedication to training for a half marathon, I came up with this project, a sort of art marathon. 1000 Works Project is about a commitment to a goal. It is about personal struggle & the search for identity. It is about vulnerability, acceptance & the re-establishment of oneself as an artist. It is about an allegiance to oneself & an allegiance to the act of making.

The main portion of the project is made up of 1000 approximately 3½" x 2½" fabric flags sewn from mostly salvaged material with designs loosely based on old battle flags. Each flag is unique. Flanking this block will be additional larger, text-based flags, made from salvaged material and presented in reclaimed frames.

The project is showing, January 9 - February 3, 2012, in The Gallery at 543 in the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

    URBN's BLDG. 543 is located at 5000 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19112 & is open to the public M- F (9-6).
